Dear Migros. I think it's great that PET is being used again as RPET in the packaging industry. But the cycle is only repeated once. I would like to return the RPET egg packaging, for example, so that ovotherm can recycle it. It's still too valuable for the garbage can.

I agree with Chiara, because I too cannot understand why PET, which has served as food packaging, should not be returned to the cycle. It goes without saying that it must of course be completely clean. I would rather welcome the opposite, that all other plastics are banned so that even more PET can be reused.

So now I've already received the answer. The fact is that only beverage bottles are eligible for PET beverage bottles, and PET is a very sensitive cycle that must not be disturbed by foreign substances. Therefore, detergent, cleaning agent, oil, vinegar and cosmetic bottles as well as trays for meat and cold cuts etc. do not belong in the PET collection point, even if they are made of PET. Contamination by oil, detergent and milk residues etc. and a high degree of mixing with other materials in the collection result in a loss of quality.
There are also different types of PET, depending on the packaging it is used for. These different types can hardly be distinguished in the sorting technology and must not be mixed in order to maintain the good quality of the PET cycle. This is why only PET drinks bottles are collected - so that the ecologically high-quality cycle can be maintained.
