Efforts have been made (I'm thinking in particular of certain organic vegetables and fruit), but can't we still do better?
I also welcome the plastic recycling initiative announced in your last magazine. However, I don't understand why this action is limited to a few regions. Is this just the beginning? On the other hand, I don't think that charging for recycling bags will encourage people to make the effort to recycle. It's like making consumers pay for the packaging waste produced by Migros. Wouldn't Migros have the means to cover these costs?

For all its products, Migros aims to choose the packaging with the best ecobalance, from manufacture to disposal. Of course, this takes a lot of time. This step-by-step approach is important to us, so that we can learn from initial experience and customer feedback, and continually optimize take-back and recycling. The aim is to gradually increase the proportion of reusable plastic, thereby conserving a considerable volume of natural resources. The greater the quantity of plastic returned, the greater the benefits of recycling. Migros is counting on the active collaboration of its customers to make this new recycling offer a reality, and is investing in infrastructure, recycling and implementation in its stores. By launching this new recycling offer, Migros is not seeking to make a profit, but to close the plastic cycle and operate a collection system that will enable it to break even. The efforts made by large retailers are welcome. It should not be forgotten that, even if Switzerland does a lot of waste sorting, it is still one of the top countries in terms of waste production. Rather than finding end-of-the-pipe solutions, it would be better to tackle the problem at root, and encourage product manufacturers to package their products differently. The end consumer has little influence in this respect. Retailers (of which Migros is one) are the only ones who can encourage manufacturers to do this. Why not refuse to sell products with double packaging? Let's not forget that we need to reduce our plastic consumption if we want to drink tap water in the years to come, or avoid swallowing a plastic cork when eating wild fish.
