Dear Migros
PET is good - glass is better.
I would appreciate it if a mineral water from the Migros range (e.g. Eptinger) were offered in glass bottles.
Because of the plastic particles that pass from the PET bottle into the water, I am convinced that many health-conscious consumers would switch to glass bottles.
Why don't you give it a try? I would be very pleased.

I think I once read/seen a report in which it was said that the effort required to produce glass involves an enormous amount of water and effort, which is why PET does not perform worse (as long as it is returned)

We are constantly replacing plastic where it makes sense. The situation with glass is as follows:
Glass is made from sand and lime and is easy to recycle. However, a lot of energy is needed to produce and recycle glass - especially for melting it down. This energy in turn requires crude oil. In addition, glass bottles, for example, are many times heavier than plastic bottles. In addition to the higher material consumption, this also has ecological disadvantages during transportation, as more fuel is used than for lightweight plastic bottles. From an ecological point of view, this means that due to the significantly lower material consumption, the environmental impact of plastic bottles is usually much lower than that of glass bottles

Hello, even though I'm a Migros kid, I have my water delivered by Valser, in a glass bottle, with carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide definitely lasts longer in glass, I don't have to carry anything, I don't have to dispose of anything, there's no deposit either, pretty easy! BUT of course a bit more expensive than the water in the Migi ;-), that's the way it is. Greetings Markus

That is correct. Disposable glass bottles are even more harmful to the environment than aluminum cans. However, reusable glass bottles would make sense in terms of their eco-balance.

Hello @jeffwigand If I may also chime in here briefly. The following can be said about the environmental impact of the MW glass bottle. Glass production is less relevant thanks to repeated use. However, the high weight of the glass bottle means that distribution and return transport for washing, together with the washing process, contribute significantly to the environmental impact and the reusable bottle performs similarly to beverage cartons and plastic bottles. In any case, EW glass bottles are among the beverage packaging with the highest environmental impact. This is mainly due to the high weight of the recyclable glass bottles and the fact that although the bottles can be recycled after a single use, they have to be melted down again at 1600 °C, which requires a lot of energy. From this point of view, the suitability for disposal is less good than with other types of packaging. Best regards Sebastian

Then you could let the customer choose? But please a water that is also desired. I think the real reason is: -The machines and changeover... costs... -It needs people to take care of the empties and glass is heavier so it will be more expensive to maintain - you can't reduce even more staff. Too bad, it's definitely a customer request.

Then take a look at the recycling symbol on grape seed oil, 50 cl, Art. 1033.421! After the oil, maybe even the water will end up in PET glass...
