Article about deodorants with aluminum - aluminum salts can damage breast cells. This report was frightening and unsettled me. Almost every deodorant contains aluminum except a few, including one from Migros: I am natural cosmetics. But I couldn't find it in the product list! And are deodorants without aluminum any good against underarm wetness?

I have now received an answer:
Aluminuim salts are an important ingredient in antiperspirant deodorants, which efficiently inhibit the flow of perspiration. They constrict the pores so that less sweat can escape. Aluminum salts have been used safely in deodorant products worldwide for decades.
We can understand that you are concerned by the latest reports related to aluminum chloride in deodorants. However, to date there is no study worldwide that actually confirms this link. This is also the conclusion of a meta-study that summarized the previous research on this topic. Both the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment BfR and the German Cancer Information Service as well as international breast cancer associations have officially given the all-clear.
The Federal Office of Public Health BAG is of the same opinion. The FOPH is not aware of any studies that can prove that aluminum chloride in deodorants has a carcinogenic effect. The latest findings of the University of Geneva, according to which aluminum chloride is harmful to breast cells, will be closely examined by the FOPH and compared with existing studies. If necessary, the FOPH will adapt or supplement its recommendations. This should be done by mid-March 2012.
