Hello karin253, thank you for your question. It is our policy to always source a product from the geographically closest destination. Of course, availability and the high quality and product safety we require must be guaranteed. If a product is in season in Switzerland and there is sufficient local produce available, we source our products from within Switzerland. As a rule, depending on the size of the Swiss harvest, we source around 80 % to 95 % of our total potato requirements from domestic production. In a normal harvest year, we have a good to very good supply of domestic stock from the previous year until around April / May. From then on, we import potatoes from Israel / Egypt and European countries such as Cyprus and Spain to ensure the required quantities. In spring, there is also customer demand for fresh potatoes. These imports take place within the framework of WTO quotas (World Trade Organization). This means that these quotas oblige Switzerland to guarantee other countries a corresponding market entry. This means that the emissions of all greenhouse gases are taken into account - but converted into CO2. However, transportation is of little importance from an ecological point of view. The decisive factor is agricultural production. The emission values were calculated by the companies treeze and intep and then verified by myclimate.
